Is my home a good fit for Home Sweet Homeshare?
We welcome homes of all shapes and sizes, as long as they're safe, and have at least one private bedroom for your housemate.

Your home also must be located in a desirable suburban or urban neighborhood in one of the 19 states we operate in. See this map to see if your home is in the areas we service.

Homes with extra features like a private bathroom for the housemate, or convenient access to public transportation are particularly attractive to potential housemates.
What happens if a housemate damages my house?
While unlikely, accidents can happen. We recommend homeowners maintain their own current homeowners insurance policy for optimal protection. And Home Sweet Homeshare offers an umbrella policy

Additionally, we can facilitate communication and mediation between you and your housemate to resolve any issues amicably.
How are homeowners and houseguests matched?
We use a proprietary matching system that considers lifestyle preferences, compatibility, and shared interests to ensure a harmonious living arrangement.
What types of household chores do houseguests perform?
Houseguests perform a variety of tasks such as cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, yard work, pet care, and other agreed-upon chores.
What happens if there is a dispute between the homeowner and the houseguest?

How do I get started on Home Sweet Homeshare?

How does Home Sweet Homeshare protect homeowners?

Additionally, we offer resources and support to help you set clear expectations with your housemate to foster a positive and worry-free home-sharing experience.
Are utilities included in the houseguest’s rent?
Homeowners cover all household utilities and related expenses. Houseguests are responsible for their personal expenses like mobile phones, additional internet services, premium cable channels, and streaming services.
What if a houseguest is unable to complete the required chores?
If a houseguest cannot fulfill their chore obligations, we work with both parties to find a suitable solution, which may include finding a replacement houseguest if necessary.
How secure is the matching process?
Our matching process includes thorough background checks, employment and education verification, and DMV checks to ensure the safety and compatibility of houseguests.

How much rent will I pay as a houseguest?
After the $800 reduction for household chores, the minimum rent is $700 per month. The exact rent amount will be agreed upon with the homeowner.
What qualifications do I need to become a houseguest?
Houseguests are typically young professionals with a stable income - you must earn at least the equivalent of $30,000 annually - and a willingness to perform household chores. All applicants undergo thorough background checks. We don't let you become "house poor", which means we don't let you spend more than 29% of your income on housing.
What are the benefits of joining Home Sweet Homeshare as a houseguest?
As a houseguest, you will receive affordable housing in desirable urban locations, the opportunity to build meaningful intergenerational relationships, and the chance to contribute positively to an older adult's life while saving on rent.
Can I smoke, drink, and do drugs?
We leave these "house rules" up to the homeowners, but the reality is it becomes more difficult to match you the more vices you have. Only 15% of the population smokes, about 40% of the homeowners drink regularly, and almost no one does illicit drugs. Our platform is best suited for those who like to remain sober in their home.
Can I have overnight guests?
As a general rule, we discourage houseguests from having overnight guests. If you're in a relationship and would like to have "sleep overs" with your partner, it is best to have those sleep overs at their house (or at a hotel) and not in the homeowners house. Keep in mind we need to keep our older homeowners safe from elder abuse, and while we can do background checks on you, we will not be able to do one on an overnight visitor
What types of chores will I be expected to do?
Chores typically include cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, yard work, pet care, and other household tasks agreed upon with the homeowner.
Can I choose the location where I want to live?
Yes, you specify your preferred location in urban areas across the United States when creating your profile on our website.
How do I make rent payments?
Rent payments are processed securely through our platform, and the amount is automatically deducted from your account and transferred to the homeowner after the service fee is deducted.
How long is the lease?
Technically, the houseguest is a domestic worker and not a tenant. We renew your contract every month, and you are allowed to leave at anytime. We do ask that you enter into the contract with the intent that you will stay for a minimum of 9 months. If you need a shorter stay, we encourage you to use other services such as Airbnb.
What happens if I can't complete my chore obligations?
If you're unable to fulfill your chores due to unforeseen circumstances, please communicate with the homeowner and our support team to find a suitable solution.
